Zitie L. Damron
Zachariah Leland Damron (August 10, 1864 - November 15, 1939)[1] was chief of the Charlottesville Police Department in September 1917[2] and in January 1925.[3]
On April 12, 1899, he became a member of the Charlottesville police force and continued as a patrolman until August 1, 1915, when he was appointed chief. Two years later he was succeeded by A. Henderson, and on September 1, 1918, was re-appointed chief, a position which he held until September 27, 1926. After that date, he served as desk sergeant.
Biography
Zachariah Leland "Zetie Lee" Damron was a native of Nelson County, son of Zack L. and Belinda (Loving) Damron, and was born at Rockfish, August 10, 1864. In early life he entered employment of the Southern Railway and was a conductor for several years.
Damron was a charter member of the Charlottesville Tent of Mccabees and for many years was record keeper of the order. He also belonged to the Modern Woodmen of American.
He married Miss Maggie Agnes O’Brien of Lynchburg who survived with four children, three daughters and one son.
