Live Arts
Live Arts is a theater company and educational institution founded in 1989. John Gibson became the organization's first full-time employee in 1993. For the first part of its history, performances were staged in the Old Michie Building. In 1999, planning began for the City Center for the Contemporary Arts, a four-story building on Water Street that also houses the Second Street Gallery and Lighthouse. The facility was designed by Charlottesville's Bushman Dreyfus Architects and opened in the mid-2000's.
Anne Hunter took over as executive director on February 3, 2020. [1]
Pandemic
With no end in sight for physical distancing rules and bans on public gatherings, there are no scheduled curtain openings for live theater. However, Live Arts is shifting to an online model and is seeking to sell online season passes. [2]
