Earl Smith was a Republican candidate for the Scottsville Magisterial District seat on the Albemarle Board of Supervisors in 2015. He was defeated by Richard Randolph on a 57 percent to 42.74 percent margin. [1]

In 2013, Smith organized a petition to oust Chris Dumler from the Scottsville seat on the Board after Mr. Dumler's conviction of misdemeanor sexual battery.
