The Charlottesville Homeownership Preservation Grant Program is designed to offset the effects of increased assessments for Charlottesville homeowners that do not otherwise qualify for senior, disabled, or other tax-relief programs.

In 2009, eligibility was determined by:

  • legal ownership of a residential property on Jan 1, 2009,
  • resident in the property,
  • owe no delinquent property taxes,
  • assessment value of the property not more than $365,000
  • federal adjusted gross income for 2008 not more than $50,000, and
  • no ownership of any other real estate, regardless of jurisdiction.

Eligible owners qualify for a grant of either $375 or $525, to be applied to the second half real estate bill.
