Biotage, Inc produces, designes and markets chromatography separations technology for the pharmaceutical industry.

Biotage was founded locally in 1989 by Henry E. Blair and Sheridan G. Snyder, who spun it off from the pair's Genzyme Corp.

Biotage was sold in 2008, and announced that it would close its factory and move its operations to Cardiff, Wales. In September 2009 it moved its U.S. headquarters from Charlottesville to Charlotte, eliminating 65 jobs. [1] [2]

Local legacy

Biotage sold its Albemarle County production facility to University of Virginia Foundation, and it is now leased to NIITEK.
