Sustainability goals

Origins date back to the late 1940's when there was a perceived need to train business leaders who would serve the American south. [1] [2]

The school has a goal of becoming carbon-neutral and zero waste by 2010[3]. Darden also seeks to become one of the top ten schools for teaching sustainability issues as they pertain to business.

i.Lab

Darden and its Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation launched i.Lab, or Innovation Lab, in 2010. i.Lab is a state-of-the-art educational center employing teaching styles informed by ethnographic and anthropological methods[4].

The Innovation Lab also runs the i.Lab Incubator, which supports the growth and development of seed and early-stage business ventures. The program is open to members of the larger Charlottesville community and provides office space, $8,000, and access to mentoring[5].

In 2016, two Albemarle High School students were accepted into the program. [6]
