Champion Brewing Company is a brewery that opened in Charlottesville in the fall of 2012. [1] [2]

In 2013, plans were announced to increase production to 10,000 barrels a year. [3] The company began sellings cans of its Killer Kolsch and Missile IPA in the spring of 2014.

In February 2020, the company announced plans to open a location in Lynchburg. [4]

The company now is part of the Champion Hospitality Group and has plans to open a restaurant in Gordonsville in the spring of 2021. [5]

In mid November 2021, Champion Brewing Company announced a merger with Reason Beer with both brands being retained. Champion will move production from the Woolen Mills to Reason's headquarters in Seminole Place. [6]

Founded by Suffolk-native Hunter W. Smith, the tasting room and first brewery site is located on Sixth Street Southwest, toward the southern end of the Belmont Bridge.[2]
