729 West Main Street is a contributing structure in the West Main Street Architectural Design Control District. It is currently the home of Mel's Cafe.

History

The structure that currently houses Mel's Cafe was built in 1962 as a dry cleaner called 1 Hour Martinizing. The developer was Charles Hurt on behalf of .

Before that, the property was home to Crutchfield's Colonial House, a two-storey furniture store that burned in 1960.

It has also been the Duck Inn.

The one-story building has been rented to Mel's Cafe since 1995. [1]
