Walter Perkins (1943-2004) represented the White Hall Magisterial District on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors for four terms in the late 20th century. Perkins ran as independent for each of his four terms. He died in 2004.
Biography
For much of his career, Perkins worked as a forester for the Westvaco Corporation.
Service on the Board
As a Supervisor, Perkins was a fiscal conservative who sought to preserve the County's rural nature. He was a supporter of a plan to allow rural landowners to sell their development rights as a way of combating rural development[1]
In the late 1990's, he stopped the development of a big box store north of I-64 between Fifth and Avon street out of a love of the trees on the site. However, the Board approved the Fifth and Avon Center on March 12, 2008.
