The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is responsible for overseeing construction and maintenance on Virginia's primary and secondary road system.


Charlottesville and Albemarle County are both part of the Charlottesville Residency VDOT's Culpeper District and served by its Charlottesville Residency, together with Fluvanna, Greene and Louisa. The Culpeper District further includes Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock Counties in its Warrenton Residency[1].

Culpeper District

The Virginia Department of Transportation's Culpeper District is responsible for maintaining around 10,250 miles of state roads within a nine-county area including Charlottesville and Albemarle County[2].
