The Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) is a commonwealth-wide system representing Virginia's branch of the Cooperative Extension Service (CES) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The CES is a non-formal educational program designed to help people use research-based knowledge to improve their lives.[1]

CES is provided by each state's designated land-grant universities; in Virginia's case, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

VCE maintains an office in Albemarle County that offers educational programs in

  • Agriculture and Natural Resources,
  • Family and Consumer Sciences,
  • 4-H Youth Development, and
  • Community Viability
