The Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) supports county officials in order to protect the interests of the counties and serve the people of Virginia. VACo is governed by a board of directors, which is made up of local government officials. VACo hosts its annual conference each November and publishes its newsletter, County Connections, twice a month. It works cooperatviely with its counterpart, the [[National Association of Counties]]. Albemarle County is a member.
