Seldom referred to as such in current times, The Junction is the intersection of the Southern (north-south) and C&O (east-west) rail lines in Charlottesville.
The intersection created four separate quadrants that segmented later development. The four areas were one centered around the University of Virginia, downtown Charlottesville, a segregated area occupied by black residents, and an undeveloped section[1].
