History

The Bent Theatre was founded by Jenn Horne in 2004 as Whole World Theatre Charlottesville, a spin-off of her Atlanta-based improv troupe Whole World Theatre[1]. Soon after, the name was changed to The Bent Theatre Company. The group is now run by actor and University of Virginia employee Andy Davis.[citation needed]

Style

Shortform improv comedy generally comprises the majority of Bent shows, though the group will occasionally perform longform improv, stand-up comedy, or feature musical guests during show intermissions. The shows are generally emceed by a senior member of the group and require extensive audience participation.

Classes

Bent offers 10-week long improv classes Saturday mornings at the Play On! Theatre which are geared both to new faces and seasoned actors. Graduates of the class perform in a graduation show and as members of the group can attend rehearsals, enjoy free admission to shows, and may eventually perform with the group[2].
