- 1849 – The state legislature chartered a new company, the Blue Ridge Railroad. It had the responsibility of constructing 17 miles of track from where the Louisa Railroad ended, 11 west of Charlottesville, to Waynesboro on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River.
- 1865 – Civil War: Major General Philip H. Sheridan's expedition of nearly 10,000 Union soldiers departed Charlottesville. Their orders were to destroy the James River Canal, the Virginia Central Railroad - any and all canal, bridges, mills, manufactories, and rebel food stores. The destruction of Scottsville began at 3 p.m.
- 2006 – UVa's athletic department held "final game" ceremonies for University Hall in connection with the men's basketball game against the Maryland Terrapins.
