- 1919 – The 18th Amendment, proposed by Congress on December 18, 1917, and was ratified by the requisite number of states. Since 1907, alcohol had been banned in Charlottesville after a local vote to go "dry." The Eighteenth Amendment was repealed by the 21st Amendment on December 5, 1933, ending the increasingly unpopular nationwide prohibition of alcohol. It is the only amendment to be repealed.
- 2019 – Tamyra Turner died at age 73. She was a Charlottesville School Board member (1993 to 1996) who started the city’s Juneteenth celebration.
