Since 1907, alcohol had been banned in Charlottesville after a local vote to go "dry." The Eighteenth Amendment was repealed by the 21st Amendment on December 5, 1933, ending the increasingly unpopular nationwide prohibition of alcohol. It is the only amendment to be repealed.
