- 1762 – Charlottesville became the courthouse seat of Albemarle county.
- 1772 – Thomas Jefferson (aged 29) married Mrs. Martha Wayles Skelton (aged 24), a widow whose previous husband died young.
- 1900 – A. V. Conway, a well known businessman of the city, assumed the position of business manager of the Daily Progress.
- 1916 – The City of Charlottesville more than tripled its size with the annexation of just over 3.6 square miles of surrounding rural Albemarle territory.
- 1975 – Beginning of an 18-month construction project for the Downtown Mall development.
- 2023 – Plastic Bag Tax goes into effect in Charlottesville - retailers are required to charge $0.05 per disposable plastic bag provided to customers at checkout.
