  • 1825 – First classes are held at the University of Virginia. Historians put the number of students from 40 to 68 at the outset, increasing to more than 100 by the end of the term.
  • 1922 – Albemarle County Sheriff Cameron Mason Thomas was killed when he attempted to jump to safety from a window of the Lexington Hotel in Richmond.
