Steve Sellers has been the new police chief of Albemarle County since January 18, 2011. Sellers used to be the deputy police chief in Fairfax County, Virginia. As the new police chief, he receive a salary of $119,000 a year[1]. Sellers moved to Albemarle County only after selling his home in Stafford County[2]
Biography
Sellers received an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a graduate degree in Public Administration from Virginia Tech. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police and the Major Cities Chiefs Association[3].
Concern over staffing levels
At his introduction to area media outlets, Incoming chief Sellers said he was concerned about the county's unmet goal of having 1.5 officers per 1,000 residents. As of 2011, there are about 1.2 officers per 1,000. Sellers said he would consider using volunteers to help reduce the workload[2].
