Speeding
Vehicles that break speed limits on neighborhood and residential streets is an issue that has faced both Albemarle County and Charlottesville over the years.
Charlottesville
City Council received a report on lowering speed limits on certain streets on January 21, 2003 that had been requested by City Councilor Kevin Lynch. As a result, counts were done on Jefferson Park Avenue, Jefferson Park Avenue Extended, Cherry Avenue, Elliott Avenue, Monticello Avenue, Avon Street, Rose Hill Drive, McIntire Road and Fontaine Avenue. City Manager Gary O'Connell said at the time the data did not merit changes but Council could make them anyway. O'Connell said enforcement would be an issue. [1]
In 2016, Locust Avenue resident Paul Reynolds unveiled a speed-tracking system that can measure the number of vehicles that exceed the 25 m.p.h. limit each day.
