In addition to Charlottesville, SELC has regional offices in Chapel Hill and Atlanta as well as satellite offices in Washington, DC, Richmond, Asheville, NC and Charleston, SC. SELC engages in legislative lobbying in Washington, DC and in statehouses, works with various regulatory agencies, and brings litigation related to environmental issues.

On the local level, SELC has opposed the Western Bypass, worked to combat construction runoff, and promotes "more sustainable land use and transportation patterns" within Charlottesville and Albemarle County.[2]
