A map of the Southern Historic District

The Southern Albemarle Historic District is an over 85,000 acre historic district in southeastern Albemarle County[1], which was added to the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The district includes many notable properties, such as Monticello, Ash Lawn-Highland, Tallwood, Pine Knot, and Jefferson Mill.

The district originated through a grass roots citizen initiative, the Southern Albemarle Association, which aimed to protect the historic resources in the area[2].
