The Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership was founded in 1993 by Leigh Middleditch and Michael Bills to help instill civility in public figures. [1]

The executive director is Bob Gibson.

History

The organization was originally known as the Virginia Institute of Political Leadership until 1997. That's when it was renamed after Thomas C. Sorensen in 1997 shortly before he passed away.

The first class of Political Leaders graduated in the spring of the following year and included future State Senator Emily Couric.
