Sol Barth Weinberg initially served two months on the city council to fill the vacancy left by the resignation in June 1952 of James M. Barr, III, whose term would have expired August 31, 1952. [1]
Weinberg was elected to the Charlottesville City Council in 1952 and in 1956. [2] He announced he would not seek a another term in 1960 due to health reasons. [3] He was appointed mayor in 1954.
He also served on the Charlottesville School Board.

Biography
Weinberg was born in Staunton and moved to Charlottesville in 1923. He attended the Staunton Military Academy, the University of Virginia and the school of pharmacy at the University of Maryland.
