Robert Marchant O'Neill is the 6th president of the University of Virginia and a former president of the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression. He served from 1985 to 1990. Prior to joining UVa, he served as president of Wisconsin's university system. [1] At the beginning of his tenure, he had predicted enrollment at UVA would remain steady at around 16,000. [2]
O'Neill retired from the Center on May 1, 2011.[1]
He died on September 30, 2018. [3] [4]
