The Rivanna Conservation Society (RCS) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to safeguarding the ecological, scenic, recreational, and historic resources of the Rivanna River and its tributaries. It does this primarily through outreach and activities designed to promote community awareness of and relationship with the river and its tributaries.
The RCS was founded in 1991. As the "Voice of the Rivanna," RCS's mission is to protect the water quality of the Rivanna River Basin, which extends from Greene County to the Rivanna's confluence with the James River at Columbia in Fluvanna County. All of Albemarle County and Charlottesville are within this watershed, as well as small sections of Orange, Louisa, Nelson and Buckingham counties.
