Lloyd first became active in local politics as a member of the group Citizens for a Sustainable Water Plan and was a member of the Board of Directors for Advocates for a Sustainable Albemarle Population[2]. He holds a degrees in Mechanical and Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech. He began his career working for the Ingersoll-Rand Company before working for Flow International in Seattle, Washington. After that he created his own manufacturing company for ten years before returning to work for a spin-off company of Ingersoll-Rand called Dresser-Rand, which is based in Texas[3]
