The Monticello Business Alliance is a political action committee formed in 2003[1] that funds candidates and political parties in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area. Contributions to the PAC come largely from the Real Estate and Development sector.[2] In 2009, over 70% of the Alliance's donations went to Republican candidates.[3]
Mission
"An alliance of individuals committed to recruiting and supporting thoughtful local political candidates who evidence an understanding of the importance of the private sector, who exhibit a willingness to promote policies that encourage enterprise, who are committed to encouraging employment opportunities for local citizens, who will work for timely implementation of public infrastructure, and who will govern - gently and respectfully - in an effort to preserve, protect, sustain and enhance an economically sound and vibrant community."[1]
Vision
"To help elect public officials who support the mission, and to encourage the appointment of individuals to public boards, committees and commissions who likewise support the mission."[1]
Values
"To be non-partisan, working for the overall betterment of the Charlottesville-Albemarle community and surrounding region."[1]
Donations
As of October 21, 2009 the Alliance donated $40,000 to local campaigns for the 2009 election. This included a $10,000 donation to the Albemarle County Republican Party[4].
