Market Street is a road in the city of Charlottesville. At 1st Street North, it splits from West Market to East Market.

West Market becomes Preston Avenue and heads toward the University of Virginia. East Market heads into the Woolen Mills neighborhood where it eventually dead ends alongside the Rivanna River. Market Street runs parallel to the Downtown Mall the mall's north side.

A proposal to convert Market Street to one-way traffic heading westbound was put forth in March 1948. [1] [2] The road was converted to two-way traffic in late 1999. [3].

Market Street falls into the City of Charlottesville's Downtown Architectural Design Control District, which means many properties along Market Street are protected.[4]
