Republican Laurence Brunton served as Mayor of Charlottesville from 1978 to 1980. He was the last Republican to hold the position.


Biography

Brunton was born in Jackson, Mississippi and moved to Charlottesville when he was 16.

Brunton served as scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop and attended First Presbyterian Church.

He was elected to Council in 1976, winning the most votes among 11 candidates on the ballot.

He died in 2000 at the age of 89 as a resident of Westminster Canterbury[1].
