Joseph D. "Joe" Platania has served as the Charlottesville commonwealth's attorney since 2018. [1]
Biography
Prior to winning top prosecutor, Platania served under former Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Chapman. He joined the office in 2003.[2]
Platania successfully prosecuted James Alex Fields Jr. in 2019 for the 2017 murder of Heather Heyer after the Unite the Right rally.[3]
Platania is the subject of a lawsuit by the manufacturers of the Queen of Virginia machines for banning them from the city. [4]
