James "Jim" Hingeley campaigned for many years to establish the Office of the Public Defender for both Albemarle County and Charlottesville. It opened in 1998.
Hingeley received a degree from Harvard College and a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
He retired in the summer of 2016. [1]
He will be a Democratic candidate for Commonwealth's Attorney in the 2019 election. [2]
