Hospice of the Piedmont

The Hospice of the Piedmont provides end-of-life care to the terminally ill. The organization accepted its first patient in 1980, after several doctors were inspired by an address given in 1978 by Dame Cicely Saunders, the founder of the modern hospice movement[1]. The organization has provide services for over 10,000 people since its founding[1] and now operates from a new facility near the new Martha Jefferson Hospital on Pantops.
John Lanham served as the organization's first medical director[2].
Merger
The group merged with the Hospice of the Rapidan in October 2014 and will remain headquartered in Charlottesville. [3]
