Homelessness continues to be a problem in Charlottesville. In 2009, the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission found that there were 232 homeless individuals in the region during its 2009 “Point in Time” count. One potential solution is the construction of single room occupancy units, a potential new type of facility whose use is being studied by the Charlottesville Planning Commission.
