Albemarle County is making a series of improvements to Hillsdale Drive in order to help its ability to serve as part of the County's road network. This is to take place before the City of Charlottesville begins construction work on the Hillsdale Drive Extended project.

The project has recently been split into two separate tasks because of problems obtaining easements around the Squire Hill Apartments. According to the MPO's project tracking update dated March 17, 2008, there are numerous liens on the property which is complicating the process.[1] The project is expected to go to bid in Spring 2008 with completion in Fall 2008.
