Hawes Spencer is the founder of two free weekly newspapers in Charlottesville, C-VILLE Weekly and then The Hook. Spencer was at The Hook from February 2002 to January 2013.[1]

Spencer founded C-VILLE Weekly in 1989. He later founded The Hook in 2002 after he was removed from the editor's post at C-VILLE.[2][dead link]
