Grit Coffee is a local chain of four coffee shops founded by Brandon Wooten and Brad Uhl in 2014. It was created through the purchase and rebranding of Para Coffee on Elliewood Avenue, Café Cubano on the Downtown Mall, and Trailside Coffee in Old Trail Village.[1] Wooten and Uhl originally took over Para Coffee from Eric Kelley in 2013.[2] A Stonefield location opened in December 2016.[3] Grit launched its own roastery in February 2018.[2]

Pandemic

In 2020, Grit Coffee received $50,000 as part of the Albemarle County Lift Grants program to assist businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 Emergency. [4]

During the pandemic, they kept operations open for pick-up and curbside at all but one of their stores. The store on Elliewood Avenue opened back up just before the University of Virginia began in-person instruction. [5]
