Greg Thomas

Greg Thomas is the band director at Albemarle High School, a position he has held since 1993. He directs the Jazz Band, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band.

Thomas is a celebrated band leader, having won the Charlottesville Jazz Society's 2010 Annual Artist Educator of the Year Award[1] and has won a regional "teacher of the year" award from Phi Beta Kappa[2].

Biography

Thomas was born in New York City to a father who was a music educator[2]. He received a master's degree in music education from Virginia Commonwealth University and then spent eight years as the band director of Walton Middle School before coming to Albemarle High. A trumpet player by training, he plays trombone in Big Ray and the Kool Kats, a Charlottesville-based jazz outfit[3].
