Democrat Francis Fife served as Mayor of Charlottesville from 1972 to 1974. Fife is married to fellow former mayor Nancy O'Brien[1].
In 1974, Fife abstained from the vote that created the Downtown Mall because of his job as vice president of the People's Bank[2].
For a time in the early 1980's, Fife served as Chairman of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission.
