Drink Local Water was a coalition of environmental and civic groups who came together in 2005 to oppose the idea of piping in drinking water from the James River. They encouraged that elected officials in Charlottesville and Albemarle County support a water supply plan that would involve building a larger dam at the Ragged Mountain Reservoir in order to meet the community's future water needs[1]. On May 27, 2005, they issued a letter to Charlottesville Mayor David Brown and Albemarle County Board of Supervisors Chairman Dennis Rooker with a series of alternatives they wanted to see in the water plan in order to ensure drinking water came entirely from this watershed.
