The MPO Policy Board has endorsed the creation of a trail to link northern Albemarle County with downtown Charlottesville, with the possibility of being extended to the Ragged Mountain Natural Area. The project is currently included on the MPO's Transportation Improvement Program as an illustrative transportation project, which means there is currently no funding to begin the project.
If built, the project's purpose would be to a multi-modal trail that would offer an alternative to travel on U.S. 29. The trail would utilize existing trails where available, including the Schenk's Greenway[1].
