Completed in 2008, The Downtown Transit Center is the central hub if the [Charlottesville Transit Service] (CTS) bus system. It was the first municipal building in Virginia to the receive a LEED-NC Gold status award for its environmentally-friendly design and construction.

The building also serves as a visitor's center, and was been designed to include retail space and an art gallery.
