As of 2011, the MPO Policy Board has endorsed a series of projects to provide a parallel road to Route 29 along Dickerson Road, one of two unpaved roads in Albemarle County's designated growth area. However, the County Board of Supervisors has recently[when?] put the project on indefinite hold given the ongoing revenue shortfall. The project remains on the MPO's Transportation Improvement Program[1]. To date, the project is proceeding only through VDOT's State Environmental Review Process.
