The Crozet Streetscape is a multi-phase street improvement project and one of several "Destination Downtown" projects meant to transform Crozet into a walkable small town. Its scope is Crozet Avenue from the railroad trestle at The Square to Tabor Street. Components of the project include adding turn lanes for Library Avenue, and installing storm water drains, landscaped medians, wide new brick sidewalks, lighting, and shade trees along the street.[1] The project is a critical component of the Crozet Master Plan.[2]

Status

The first step of the project involves burying utility cables underground.[3] In April 2013, Dominion Power had begun removing the power lines it planned to bury under downtown Crozet, and Century Link was preparing to begin doing the same. Bid requests for the streetscape project's contractors are expected to go out in May 2013. Construction is expected to begin in Summer 2013 and last for eight months.[1]

History

The history of the Crozet Streetscape project is one of many delays and difficulties. It required securing 27 easements, and was first expected to be built in 2008.[1]
