The "Coal Tower project" is the unofficial name given to a proposed 302-unit residential development in Charlottesville to be built just north of the CSX railroad tracks between the area of 10th Street Northeast and Carlton Road[1]. The project, which is being developed by Coran Capshaw's Redlight Management, originally had been more mixed used in nature. The development is being done by-right. The final site plan is currently[when?] under review by city staff[2] awaiting completion and approval of a stormwater maintenance plan.
The original site plan also depicted at least one nine-story building, but that was later scaled back[3].
