The Charlottesville Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is charged with advising City Council on safety improvements for bicycle and pedestrian facilities across the city.

The group meets the first Thursday of every month in the Department of Neighborhood Development Services conference room. Meetings are open to the public. Topics are geared toward bicycle, pedestrian or other similar issues.

The group is coordinated by Amanda Poncy, the city's bike and pedestrian coordinator.

Members of the group are appointed by City Council.

Planning for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in Charlottesville is contained within the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.

2008

In September 2008 the committee recommended reallocation of $700,000 from the Capital Projects Fund to pedestrian safety measures. The recommendations included public education; stepped up enforcement; ADA compliance; zebra-striped crosswalks; uniform push-button "hand man" signals with a countdown; and audio signals. The committee also made policy recommendations to enforce snow removal laws and prohibit blocking of sidewalks[1].
