The Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards is a group of volunteers dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of trees to the ecosystem. They are also involved in efforts to increase the tree canopy in the region[1]. They offer classes on how to identify area trees[2]. The organization was founded in June 2008[citation needed].
