Charlottesville-Albemarle may also refer to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes the adjacent Greene, Fluvanna, and Nelson Counties[1].

In casual writing both "Charlottesville" and "Charlottesville-Albemarle" are sometimes used without specific differentiation, and may also be referring to places in other neighboring counties[nb 1].
