Charles S. Martin is a former member of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors who served from 1991 to 2003[2].
Background
Elected as a Democrat, he represented the Rivanna District for three terms from 1992 to 2003 after first winning election in 1991. He served as the Board's Chair from 1999 to 2000, the first African-American to hold that position. Martin was also an appointed member of the Albemarle County School Board. During his school board service he was the first African-American to serve as Chairman of the School Board.
In 2001, Martin ran for the 58th district seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. [3]
Martin was a founder of the Sexual Assault Resource Agency[4]
Martin died on April 10, 2012. [1]
1999 election
Martin announced his bid for a third term at a picnic held at his home in the Terrybrook neighborhood.[5].
